Newcastle’s Ameobi Eyeing West Brom Switch?
According to reports, Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has opted for a switch to West Brom as he is eager to perform under Albion boss Tony Mowbray.
Mowbray is reportedly on the verge of completing a deal of around £2.5million for the services of the 26-year old striker, who is down the pecking order behind Michael Owen, Mark Viduka and Obafemi Martins at St James' Park.
Ipswich are also said to be keen to sign the former England Under-21 player, but it seems Ameobi has decided to join the Baggies.
A source close to Ameobi said: "Shola is 26 now so this is a big move for him and he knows a manager like Tony Mowbray will help to develop him as a player.
"He's over his injury problems now and he just wants to get his head down and play.
"He is keen to get his future sorted so ideally he'd like to get things done and dusted in the next week or so.
"A few clubs have shown an interest but he wants to go to West Brom."
