West Brom are reportedly willing to offer Portsmouth £4 million for striker David Nugent.

Baggies manager Tony Mowbray is reportedly keen to extend his striking options after having watched his side sink to two Premier League defeats as well as losing to Hartlepool in the Carling Cup in midweek.

Mowbray has spoken to the media to confirm the club are hoping to sign further players, although he was coy on the club’s intended targets.

“We have a few things progressing and let’s hope they progress to a signing,” said the Baggies’ boss before adding, “But we have seen a few times that things can progress and then come to a complete standstill.”

West Brom have already brought in strikers Luke Moore and Roman Bednar over the summer but are also appear keen on Nugent who has endured a difficult time since arriving at Fratton Park.

Nugent signed for Pompey back in 2005 from Preston North End however he has struggled to make an impact on the south coast and managed only five league starts last season.

The arrival of Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch at Portsmouth have undoubtedly reduced his first team chances further and he may be tempted to move on in search of regular first team football.

Ipswich Town had been thought to be close to signing the striker but Nugent was believed to be reluctant to move to the Championship side.
