West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of Slovakian international defender Marek Cech from FC Porto.

The 25-year-old had a medical at the Hawthorns today and has signed a three-year-contract, with the option of a further year if the club decide to keep him on.

The versatile star, who can either play at left-back or left-sided midfield, has moved from Porto for a fee of £1.4 million.

Cech was part of the Porto side that won the Portuguese League title last season and reached the last 16 of the Champions League.

He is also a key member of the Slovakian national team and has made 29 appearances for his country.

Cech has flown to Holland to join up with his new team-mates, who are currently on a pre-season tour of the country as well as Germany.

West Brom manager Tony Mowbray has been splashing the cash this summer in order to give his team the best chance to stay in the Premier League next season.

Cech is the seventh player to arrive at the Hawthorns in 2008, with Luke Moore, Roman Bednar, and Gianni Zuiverloon among other notable signings
