West Bromwich Albion have signed Jonas Olsson from NEC Nijmegen for a fee of £800,000, rising to £1.16 million, and Ryan Donk, 22, the Dutch defender, on a season-long loan from AZ Alkmaar. Olsson, the 25-year-old Sweden defender, has agreed a two-year contract with the option for a further season. West Brom have also inquired about signing Peter Luccin, 29, on loan. The midfield player is surplus to requirements at Real Zaragoza.

Portsmouth, who have also made an approach for Luccin, are expected to allow Martin Cranie, 21, the defender, to move to Charlton Athletic.

Manchester City
have signed Gláuber Berti, the FC Nuremburg defender. The 25-year-old, who played once for Brazil but has Italian citizenship, signed a one-year contract.

Newcastle United
are expected to secure Ignacio González on loan from Valencia. The 26-year-old Uruguay midfield player is available after the Spanish club decided that they have enough players in his position.

West Ham United
hope to acquire at least one attacking player today, with David Di Michele, the Torino striker, and Edison Cavani, of Palermo, under consideration.

Real Zaragoza officials have held talks in London in an attempt to sell Sergio GarcÍa and Diego Milito, the forwards, to Tottenham Hotspur, but they left without a deal because Juande Ramos, the Tottenham head coach, is not thought to be interested in either. GarcÍa is the subject of an offer from Real Betis.

Hull City have taken Kamil Zayatte, the 23-year-old defender, on loan from Young Boys Berne. Hull have also expressed an interest in Seol Ki Hyeon, the Fulham winger.

Derby County have rejected a request from Marseilles to take Tyrone Mears, the right back, on trial. Bolton Wanderers have signed Ebi Smolarek, the 27-year old Poland striker, on loan from Racing Santander.

Henrik Larsson will stay at Helsingborg despite interest from Everton and West Ham. “I will not go anywhere. It has never been my intention,” the Sweden forward said.
